Ronald "Ron" Gaede, 67, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, passed away Sept. 21, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the funeral home by the Rev. John Albertson. Private family burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery in Central City with military honors.
Ron is survived by his daughters, Kris (Bob) Matus of Springville, Michelle Gaede of Marion and Cayleen (Bob) Mesecher of Ankeny; mother, Alvina Pearce of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Aubree (Nic) Klima, Shelby Matus, Taylor Matus, Tyler Gaede and Jayden Mesecher; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Klima, Nevaeh Klima and Klaira Klima; and his canine companion, Oscar.
Ron was preceded in death by his father.
Ron was born in Sumner, Iowa, to Roy Gaede and Alvina (Grahlman) Pearce. He graduated from Sumner High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ron was a route salesman for Colonial Bakery/Sara Lee for over 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 238 and the American Legion.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan. Ron also enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, bowling, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ron's memory.
