Robert A. Lybarger, 72, of McHenry, Ill., since 1977, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015, at his residence, next to his loving wife.
He was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert Spooner and Maude Signal. On June 17, 1967, he married the love of his life, Patricia McAndrew, in Des Plaines, Ill.
Bob worked for 15 years at Volkswagen as a senior parts manager in Cedar Rapids, then relocated to Schaumburg, Ill. In his earlier years, he enjoyed N-gauge and H-gauge model trains and radio-controlled airplanes. Bob's passion was race cars, which he raced as an amateur for 38 years. He was a dedicated member and on the national board of directors for the Sports Car Club of America. Bob was a member of the Blackhawk Region SCCA. He was the CEO of Lybarger Racing Enterprises for 25 years.
Bob is survived by his adoring wife, Pat.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Maude.
Graveside prayers and inurnment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
