Sheryl Tierney, 78, passed away at home in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Sheryl was born on May 1, 1937, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Maxine and Willard Taylor. She married Walter Tierney on July 8, 1953. They lived in Agency and then Cedar Rapids. After retirement, they spent several years in Fort Myers, Fla. Sheryl returned to Cedar Rapids in 2001.
Sheryl was devoted to her extended family and her many dear lifelong friends. She enjoyed her years in Florida, keeping up with friends and family on Facebook, her dog and especially playing Words with Friends 24/7!
Sheryl is survived by her brother, Jim Taylor; her children, Rick (Sue) Tierney, Sherrie (Pete) Schueth and Rod (Ann) Tierney; eight grandchildren, Matt (Lisa) Tierney, Sam (Kimberly) Tierney, Ryan (Amy) Tierney, Nathan (Allie) Schueth, Michael (Ashleigh) Tierney, Taylor Schueth, Kyle (Tiffany) Tierney and Samantha Schueth; and nine great-grandchildren.
Sheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Peanuts" Tierney; parents, Maxine and Willard Taylor; her sister, Judy; and her brother, David.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery, near Delta. Visitation with the family present will be one hour before the service Friday.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
