McCarthy, John J. 'Jack'

John J. “Jack” McCarthy, 67, of Bernard, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

He was born June 5, 1942, in Bernard, the son of Vern and Rita (Donovan) McCarthy. He married Mary Jean McLaughlin on July 3, 1965. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2005. Jack and Mary Jean resided in the Bernard area since 1966.

He is survived by a daughter, Kate (Darin) Williams of Lisbon; two grandchildren, Nick and Tyson Williams; three sisters, Patricia “Patsy” O'Connell of Bernard, Arlene (Dick) Henneberry of Cascade and Janeen Pape of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Loras McLaughlin of Maquoketa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jean; and brothers-in-law, Donald Pape Jr. and Edmund O'Connell.
