EVELYN "EVY" R. SWANSON

Evelyn "Evy" R. Swanson, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services are at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church. Pastor Cathy Allen and the Rev. Bill Warhover will officiate the service. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Survivors include a son, George (Cindy) of Marion; a daughter, Shelley Stackhouse of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Robert Franck (Brenda) of St. Augustine, Fla. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kimberly (Doug) Schminke, Kristopher (Heather) Kelley, Ryan (Alexis) Swanson, Colby Swanson and Chad (Ellen) Swanson; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Carter, Emma, Caden and Evelynn. Her loss will be felt by Nena Munoz of Colombia, who loved Evelyn like a grandma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband, George in 1989; and her sister, Marion Lingle.
Evelyn was born on Jan. 19, 1925, in Maquoketa, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Andersen) Franck. She married George P. Swanson on June 28, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. George passed away in 1989. Evy was a homemaker and a faithful member of Echo Hill Presbyterian Church.
Evy enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her friends immensely. She took pride in her home, garden and her love for God who guided her to the end. She was active in the church until her health made it too difficult. Evy had many joys in her life. Her door was open to all who wanted to come and have a cup of coffee, chat and feel good. Her hospice team were angels and she felt so blessed to have them in her life. When her health was good, she was a longtime volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital with the Patient Representative program as a patient visitor. She also worked with the advantage program. Her family invites you to come to her service, feel her presence, enjoy some food, and as her mom always told her: "be kind" to one another.
