Delores A. Swyers 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a winter resident of Bonita Springs, Fla., for the past six years, died on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at Naples Community Hospital after a brief illness. Delores was born on May 29, 1939, in Paducah, Ky., the daughter of Viola (Barrow) Knowlton.
Delores (Dee) was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Class of 1958. She worked for Rockwell-Collins' avionics division for 37 years as an industrial engineer technician. After retiring, she worked with the elderly at Ridgeview Health Care.
In her earlier years, Delores enjoyed bowling and trips to her favorite casinos where she enjoyed playing the slots. She was an avid traveler and her favorite activity was going to Paris, Tenn., every Labor Day for a family reunion. She also had a close group of girlfriends that she loved to go on trips with.
She is survived by her father, John Knowlton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her loving husband of 36 years, Raymond K. "Rusty" Swyers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Jeffery Wayne Miller and his wife, Karen of Midway, Iowa; daughter, Kelly Ann Mather of Hiawatha, Iowa; two sisters, Ruth Heiken (the late Ken Heiken) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Sue Ford of California; one grandson, Daniel Dalton Vandaver; and one great-grandson, Zane Raymond Vandaver.
Delores was preceded in death by her mother, Viola (Barrow) Knowlton; and her brother, Wayne Garvey.
Delores was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all she touched. She is at peace with no pain, holding hands with Bert and Pam.
