JAMES HOWELL Cedar Rapids James "Jim" Gene Horlivy Howell, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel. James was born Nov. 17, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, and was raised by his great-uncle and aunt, John and Kathryn Hovlivy. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1957. Jim worked at Barnard Leas, Square D and for many years at Westside Sewing. Jim was united in marriage to Janice Maureen Benish on Jan. 14, 1967, at First Presbyterian Church near Ely. He enjoyed working with wood and metals, playing the guitar and harmonica, photography and activities outdoors. James is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Dan Howell and Tammy Howell, both of Cedar Rapids; cousins, Gary VanCura, Mary Jane VanCura and Linda Kooreman; brothers-in-law, Marlyn (Mickie) Benish of Springville and Darrell (Janet) Benish of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Janelle Benish of Cedar Rapids; as well as his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Nellie (VanCura) Howell; and his great-uncle and aunt, John and Kathryn Hovlivy. Memorials may be directed to the family.
