Vera Mae Scheetz, 91,
of Coralville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Iowa Affiliate.
Vera was born on May 9, 1924, on a farm near New Sharon, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Agnes (Sheehy) Grant. She was a bookkeeper for Taintor Savings in New Sharon, Merchants Bank in Cedar Rapids and Hills Bank and Trust of Coralville. She also worked for the University of Iowa admissions office. Vera was united in marriage to William Nicholas Scheetz on Oct. 3, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1992. She enjoyed dancing, reading and word puzzles.
Vera is survived by her five children, Terry Scheetz of Cosgrove, Janet (John) Bowers of Cedar Rapids, Linda Lown of Hiawatha, Kevin Scheetz of Conroy and Sandy Shank of Coralville; seven grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Lown, Cari Scheetz, Robert Lown, Morgan (Nick) Davies, Cody Shank, Savannah Scheetz and Nicholas Scheetz; and three great-grandchildren, Addison and Isley Davies and Kia Widen.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Marcus Scheetz; great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Lown; four brothers, Jesse, Paul, Glenn and Don Grant; and four sisters, Pauline Wilson, Irene Moore, Ivyl Leatherman and Audrey Grant.
