Meier Sr., Lowell Ervin
Lowell Ervin Meier Sr., 91, of Walker, died Friday morning, July 5, 2013, in Buchanan County Care Center, Independence, following a short illness. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Walker United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Norman Kelley. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Floral Hill, Oelwein.
Survivors include his children, Joyce Risdon, Lowell Jr. (Karen) Meier and Rita (Jerry) Wiltsey, all of Walker, and Bill (Penny) Meier of Marion; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ilene; one brother, Henry; and two sisters, Vanita and Virginia.
Lowell was born March 20, 1922, in Dundee, Iowa, son of William and Edith (Davis) Meier. He attended school in Dundee, then moved to Brandon, where he graduated from high school. Lowell married Ilene Holden on Aug. 2, 1941, in Independence. He worked for Wilson Inc. for many years and when he retired he was self-employed and ran Early Fond V-8 until the time of his death.
He was a member and founder of the Early V-8 Club for 42 years. Lowell enjoyed going to the casinos.
