Betty M. Hunziker, 87, of Winthrop, died Friday, May 8, 2015, at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.
Betty was born July 31, 1927, in Paxton, Ill., the
daughter of William N. and Ruby E. (Albriton) Lewis. She graduated from Manual High School in Peoria, Ill., and then attended beauticians school. While going to school and working as a waitress, Betty met and married Lawrence L. Hunziker on Nov. 17, 1946, in Peoria. The couple lived in Washington, Ill., for several years before moving to Winthrop, Iowa, in 1951 and began farming.
Betty enjoyed crafting and decorated many cakes for all kinds of events. She loved and cherished spending time with her family.
She is survived by nine children, Larry (Pat) Hunziker of Shellsburg, Paul Hunziker of Independence, Ron (Kathy) Hunziker of Fairfax, Barb (Don) Cook of Independence, Charlotte Postel of Independence, Joyce Koehler of Winthrop, Shirley (Cecil) Hunziker-Pillard of Coggon, Norma (Raymond) Pillard of Coggon and Richard Hunziker of Winthrop; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Lewis of Morton, Ill.
Betty was preceded by her parents; a daughter, Donna Wierck; sons-in-law, Rick Wierck, Allen Koehler and Bill Postel; two brothers, William and Donald Lewis; and four sisters-in-law, Beulah, Jenny, Virginia and June Lewis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to services Wednesday. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery, Independence.
