Robert Ammeter, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors by the Offutt Air Force Base Honors Team. The Rev. Reed Stockman will officiate at the services. Survivors include his wife, Donna; two daughters, Karen (Russell) Barenz, Swisher, and Kathy (Gary) Nagel, Monticello; five grandchildren, Stacy (Ken) Barenz, Ryan (April) Barenz, Jeff (Kylie) Nagel, Kendi (Mitch) Monk and Jaycie Nagel; one great-grandson, Carver Monk; and sisters, Betty Wilson, Solon, and Naomi Cook, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Lavina Goos and Mary Hutchinson.
Robert William Ammeter was born Feb. 26, 1931, at Delhi, Iowa. He was the son of William and Mary Sulzner Ammeter. He graduated from Delhi High School in 1948. Robert married Donna Chapman on Feb. 26, 1955, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948, retiring as a master seargent in 1968, after 20 years of service to his country. He was employed at Wathan Flying Service in Cedar Rapids before working for the FAA in Dubuque.
Bob enjoyed playing golf, fishing and camping, building and flying model aircraft. He especially enjoyed time with his family and friends.
