Mark Gilliatt, 64, passed away suddenly at his new home in Rotunda West, Fla., on Sunday, April 3, 2016.
The son of Jean (Achenbach) and Robert Gilliatt, he was born Aug. 8, 1951, in Cedar Rapids. Mark attended school in
Cedar Rapids, graduating from Washington High School in 1970. After
attending Kirkwood Community College, Mark
began work in the grocery business.
On June 1, 1974, he was united in marriage to Pat Matias at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Mark and Pat moved to Des Moines, where they raised their two children, daughter Lindsay and son Dan. Mark continued to work in the food brokerage business until he recently retired.
He is survived by Pat; Lindsay and Dan (Brittany); mother, Jean; sister-in-law, Joan Mosel (Jim); his brothers, Steve Gilliatt (Vicky) and Craig Gilliatt (Myrna); his sisters, Connie Clark and Vicki Slaughter (Ken); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mark loved to travel, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He also loved the
Iowa Hawkeyes and spoiling his dogs and granddogs.
He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered at places enjoyed by him and his family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Animal Rescue of Central Iowa or his family.
