Maquoketa Valley kicks off wrestling dual with 2 wins

DELHI - The Maquoketa Valley High School wrestling team kicked off the season by hosting East Buchanan, Midland and Central City in three dual meets.
The Wildcats finished the night 2-1, losing to East Buchanan in the finale after wins over Midland and Central City.
Maquoketa Valley started the night by defeating Central City, 78-0. Wrestlers who were successful during were Canyon Richardson (forfeit), Carson Wright (forfeit), Tanner Parmely (forfeit), Dylan Happel (forfeit), Austin Stogdill (pin), Mitch Smith (pin), Norman Wilson (forfeit), Cole Kruse (forfeit), Dylan Wright (forfeit), Jordy Downs (pin), Alec McDowell (forfeit), Eric Heims (pin) and Kaleb Kruse (forfeit).
Next the Wildcats took down Midland, 72-6. Helping to get this win were Richardson (forfeit), Justin Krapfl (forfeit), Parmely (pin), Robert Hildebrand (forfeit), Stogdill (pin), Wilson (pin), Kruse (pin), Wright (forfeit), Downs (forfeit), Alec McDowell (forfeit), Heims (pin) and Kruse (forfeit).
Maquoketa Valley ended the night with a 45-34 loss to East Buchanan. Richardson (forfeit), Stogdill (pin), Wilson (pin), Wright (pin), McDowell (pin) and Downs (12-3 decision) won for the Wildcats.
Coach Tim Andrews said he was satisfied with how the season started.
'East Buchanan has a very respectable team this year with a plethora of upper classmen,” Andrews said. 'To have that meet come down to a match or two that could have gone either way says a lot about the hard work these guys put in this off-season.
'Hopefully we can learn from some of the mistakes we made quickly as we head into a busy December.”
