STEVE "TEX" STEPANEK

Steven "Tex" Stepanek, the man who made everyone laugh with his wit, and astonished them with his insights and intelligence, left this earth on April 18, 2015. With Steve were his wife, Peggy, and their two daughters, Carson and Daley. Steve died prematurely at age 59 from cancer at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Ga. Services were April 23 in Statesboro.
A Celebration of Life will be Sunday, May 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. at LaSalle Middle School in Cedar Rapids.

Steve had a charisma that drew people to him. His speed-of-light humor left his listeners breathless and laughing. His intellect earned him numerous degrees, including doctorates in law and mass communication from the University of Iowa following time served in both the United States Army and United States Navy. Steve was on the faculty of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Mourning his death are his wife, Peggy of Brooklet, Ga.; daughters, Carson and Daley Stepanek, both of Statesboro; brother, John of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Mary Kay Sollberger and husband William of Peoria, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Hilton) Stepanek; and brother, Ted.
