A former dean of ITT Technical Institute's Cedar Rapids campus was sentenced Friday in federal court to 10 years in prison for enticing a 14-year-old girl to meet him for sex in 2010.
Terry M. Campie, 55, of Iowa City, pleaded guilty last March to one count of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activities.
He was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison and will serve 10 years on supervised release following his prison term.
At the plea hearing, Campie admitted he attempted to persuade an individual he thought was a 14-year-old girl to meet with him to have sex in April of 2010. The individual was an undercover officer with the Clinton County Sheriff's Office who posed as a girl named "Jenny."
The chats on a Yahoo chat room quickly became sexual and Campie proposed meeting the girl. Campie told police he used the Internet chats, as well as his mobile phone, to call and text "Jenny," according to court records. He also acknowledged the sexual activity he discussed with "Jenny" would have been third-degree sexual abuse if he had he gone through with the acts.
Terry Campie.
