JOSEPHINE SHADID DAOUD
Cedar Rapids
Josephine Shadid Daoud passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the Dennis &
Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa.
Josephine was born in 1927, in Ain Arab, Lebanon,
to parents Ferris and Najibe Shadid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elias Daoud; eldest son, George Daoud; brother, Joseph, brother, John; sister, Milia; and brother, Nemer.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Ivette Ayache and family; the family of George Daoud; son, Mike Daoud and family; daughter, Marli Haddy and family; son, Samir Daoud and family; and brother, William Shadid and family. Josephine is also the proud grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 17, as well as a beloved aunt, cousin and mother-in-law.
She immigrated to the United States in 1976 with her husband, Elias Daoud and her five children. As a housewife and mother, her life and heart were dedicated to her family and her faith. She found true joy in holding her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews from the moment they were born. Ever present, Josephine never missed a single birth, baptism, birthday party, graduation, concert, recital, wedding or major life event. Another defining aspect of Josephine was her faith: as a member of St. George Orthodox Church, she never missed a Sunday service. Josephine also had a true passion for cooking and her food was delicious; nobody ever left her table hungry -- she always made sure of that.
Josephine's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Oldorf Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha for the remarkable care, compassion, and comfort they provided during her final days. Thank you also to St. George Christian Church in Cedar Rapids for the faith, love, and spiritual support provided throughout her life.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 5, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52404.
Funeral services will be held at noon, March 6, at St. George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids. A procession to St. George Cemetery will immediately follow the church service. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, any who wish to attend the funeral service will need to visit www.stgeorgecedarrapids.org and choose "Service Signup," locate the services for Josephine Daoud and choose "Submit and Sign Up" to be added to the list of attendees so arrangements can be made for seating.
