CEDAR RAPIDS -The Coralville Police Department has identified the victim of an early morning duplex fire in Coralville.
Reports indicate that 14-year-old Ramone Bryant was killed and two other victims were injured in the blaze.
Coralville Firefighters responded to 720 11th Avenue at approximately 1:07 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving word of the fire. The caller indicated to authorities that the garage and a portion of the house were on fire.
Five people were living in the residence and the duplex was occupied at the time of the fire, a press release indicated.
“On arrival, firefighters found heavy fire conditions that made access to Bryant challenging,” Coralville Fire Department Chief David K. Stannard said in a press release.
The two other injured parties were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Reports indicate that the fire caused a loss of approximately 85 percent of the residence and caused substantial damage to the structure.
The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the Coralville Police and Fire Departments with assistance from the State Fire Marshall's Office.
