Gase, Mary Jo (Martin)
Mary Jo (Martin) Gase, 44, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, from a brain aneurysm at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. today at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit from 2:30 to 9 p.m. and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mary is survived by her fiance, Keith Hawkins; daughter, Ashley Gase; son, Joseph Gase all of Cedar Rapids; her parents, George and Sandra Martin of Norway; eight siblings, Connie (Brad) Wisnousky of Fairfax, Don (Cari) Martin of Norway, Dean (Carole) Martin of Solon, Shelly (Gary) Zaugg of Watkins, Renee (Chad) Reedich of Cedar Rapids, Matt (Holly) Martin of Norway, John (Ashley) Martin and Amanda Martin, all of Cedar Rapids; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mary was born on March 21, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Sandra (Broz) Martin. She graduated from Capri Cosmetology College in 1986 and was a cosmetologist and master designer at J.C. Penney's for 25 years. Mary was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
Mary enjoyed making cookies, which were enjoyed by all her nieces, nephews and friends of her children. She found joy in watching her son's racing and her daughter's many sports activities. Mary enjoyed exercising and was an independent sales consultant for Xango. She had a strong faith and was always giving to others; so giving, that she donated her organs to save the lives of others.
Memorials may be directed to the Mary Gase Memorial Fund at the Fairfax State Savings Bank, P.O. Box 277, Fairfax, IA 52228. Memorials will be used for Joey and Ashley's education.
