Short, Charlotte 'Connie' Ann (O'Connor) Barber
CEDAR RAPIDS - Charlotte “Connie” Ann (O'Connor) Barber Short, 82, passed from her earthly life into her heavenly body on Oct. 1, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, following a 13-week hospitalization. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Connie was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Conrad, Iowa, to Hazel (Mason) and James O'Connor. She was married to Yvonne Barber; they later divorced. Connie and Bill Short were married in November 1974.
Connie managed the Town House Motel and Restaurant for many years. She and Bill managed several resorts and timeshares throughout the eastern and southern United States. She retired in 1992.
Survivors include daughter, Charlee Kimm of Solon; son, Jim Barber of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Danielle (Jeff) Bailey of Newton and Nicole (Steve) Toy of Evansville, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren, Carson, Gabrielle, Maxwell and Arianna Bailey and Brodey, Braxton and Kylan Toy; and brother and sister-in-law, Bernard (Boo) and Joan O'Connor of Marion. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Bill (Elizabeth) Short, Mary (Jim) Dennis, Jim (Lori) Short, Steve (Connie) Short, Ann Vandenberg; and several stepgrandchildren.
Connie was predeceased by her parents; husband, Bill Short; son-in-law, Bob Kimm; daughter-in-law, Mary Short; and siblings, Margaret Larsen, Kay Ruffin, Barbara Cooney, James O'Connor and Craig O'Connor.
She was a donor to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
