O'Connor, Richard L. 'Dick'
Richard L. “Dick” O'Connor, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday morning, Oct. 31, 2013, of congestive heart failure in the comfort of his home. Per his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Private family cryptside services at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial luncheon at noon Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Family Center. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dick was born Sept. 26, 1939, in Tama County, to Edward and Mildred (Ribby) O'Connor. He attended Clutier High School and graduated in 1957. Dick and Ann Dvorak were married Oct. 10, 1959, and they lived in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Sanitary Dairy, started and operated his own business named Parcels Limited, and retired due to his health from A-C Supply in 1992.
Dick enjoyed his favorite sport of golf and watching the Iowa Hawkeye football team while wintering in Surprise, Ariz.
Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years; and their children and spouses: Todd (Teresa) O'Connor of Cedar Rapids, Teresa (Lynn) Worley of Ankeny and Michele (Tim) Minard of West Des Moines. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Kristen (Brandon) Tillman of Cedar Rapids, Lindsay Worley of Surprise, Ariz., Chad Minard of Lawrence, Kan., Heather (Sean) Weber of Lakeside, Calif., Taylor (Drew) Nickell of Cedar Rapids, Grant Minard of Chicago, Tara O'Connor of Cedar Rapids and Drew Minard of West Des Moines. Dick is also survived by a great-grandson, Finn Tillman.
Other survivors include a sister, Sharon VanDeWalle of Palo; a brother, Timothy (Jennifer) Yukl of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Jan O'Connor of Harrisville, Mich., and Shirley O'Connor of Pearland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his little doggie, Mitzi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Terry and Larry.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Iowa Hospice for their excellent and dedicated care given to Dick while he was ill.
Memorial donations will be directed to Iowa Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
