Karen Tyler Behrens, rural Fairfax, passed away April 3, 2018, at Colonial Manor.
She is survived by her husband, Lee; their daughter, Jill of Fairfax; and a sister, Sandy Eves of Redding, Calif.
Karen was born March 19, 1938, to Fred and Francis Tyler, in Sioux City, Iowa, whom she preceded in death, along with one sister, Phyllis Shields; and two brothers, Fred and Gary.
Karen met Lee while working in data processing at Wells Fargo in San Francisco. They were married Aug. 20, 1961, in Oelwein. They resided in Cedar Rapids until moving to a farm near Swisher in 1970.
Karen was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed needlework and cooking through the years. Karen enjoyed working for the University of Iowa and College Community Schools.
Karen dealt with the challenges of declining health in the last few years. She was grateful to supporting family, friends and the hospice community.
There will be no visitation at this time. Karen wished to be part of the Deeded Body Program at the U of I.
Memorials may be sent to Essence of Life Hospice in Amana.
The family wishes to thank friends, Dr. Chris Dunn and the hospice staff for their support.
