Paul M. Jerabek, 87, of Marion, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Lori Wunder, First Presbyterian Church, Mount Vernon, officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Czech National Cemetery.
Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; children, Paul (Pam) Jerabek, Mount Vernon, Gale Skogman, Cedar Rapids, Lisa (Drew) Retz, Atkins, and Jennifer (Marshall) Petersen, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, John (Lauren) Skogman, Monica (Nick) Williams, Nick (Taylor) Jerabek, Nelson Jerabek, Brad and Mitch Havel and Tate, Nile and Jane Petersen; and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Beckham and Beau Williams, Quentin Jerabek and William C. Skogman.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Julia (Holets) Jerabek; and two sisters, Julia Webster and Joanne Melsha.
Paul was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Rapids and Marion area. He graduated from William McKinley High School and attended the University of Iowa. He received a degree from Cedar Rapids Business College. Paul married Nancy E. Miller on Oct. 23, 1955, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids. He was the owner-operator of Paul Jerabek Wholesaler, a beer distributing company in Cedar Rapids, for 42 years.
Paul was a Navy veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mount Vernon. Paul also was a member of American Legion Post 298 in Marion and a 50-year member of Sokol Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Iowa Beer Wholesalers Association.
He enjoyed fishing in Canada, bowling, boating, traveling and gardening. Paul also was fascinated with whales.
The Jerabek family would like to thank Paul's health care providers at both St. Luke's Hospital and Cottage Grove Place for the excellent care he received.
Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 298, Marion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library and Camp Courageous.
