An Iowa City man faces numerous charges after driving a woman to the Johnson County Courthouse so she would drop a no-contact order against him.
Police said Chris W. Kelly Jr., 27, threatened to shoot and kill the woman, or her family members, if she refused to rescind the no-contact order.
Around noon Monday, police said Kelly was driving the woman to the Johnson County Courthouse when his vehicle became stuck in the snow on Clinton Street. Kelly then became angry and punched the woman in the leg, police said.
Kelly is awaiting trial on Jan. 25 for a first-degree harassment charge for threatening to beat and kill the woman, which led to the no-contact order, according to Iowa City Police complaints.
Kelly, of 1100 Arthur St. No. 1, was charged with tampering with a witness, assault causing bodily injury and violating a protective order. He was being held in the Johnson County Jail Tuesday on a $30,000 bond.
