Betty Coleen Pretz Morstad was born May 5, 1934, in Marengo, Iowa. On Nov. 20, 2014, her soul entered Heaven to enjoy the eternal life won for her through the death and resurrection of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was the daughter of Edwin Ernest Pretz and Martha Mathilda Pretz. She lived in Iowa for most of her life. She was baptized into Christ on June 17, 1934, at St. John's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1952. Betty was united in Holy Marriage to Marvin Albert Morstad at St. John's Lutheran Church on Sept. 9, 1956. They were blessed with three sons, Neil, Steve and Lynn, whom they raised in Cedar Rapids and and Robins, Iowa.
Betty worked for Rockwell Collins and Nash Finch for many years. She spent the last several years of her career helping in school cafeterias.
In 1994, Betty moved to Allen, Texas, to spend time with her first set of grandchildren, Amanda and Michael. In 2005, Betty moved to Roanoke, Va., to be with her second set of grandchildren, Ashleigh, Breezy and Camlyn.
She remained active throughout her life. Betty was passionate about her gardening and loved celebrating holidays with her family. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Iowa, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairview, Texas, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Roanoke, Va. She was a member of Lutheran Woman's Missionary League.
Betty is survived by her spouse, Marvin Morstad; her children, Neil Morstad of Austin, Texas, Steve Morstad (Dianne) of Roanoke, Va., and Lynn Morstad (Tammy) also of Roanoke; her brother, Eldon of Cedar Rapids; and her sister, Marlene of Marengo. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Ashleigh, Breezy and Camlyn; two stepgrandchildren, Brianna and Chelsea; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Liam, Conor and Tristan.
Betty was preceded in death by her father in 1966, her mother in 1999 and her sister, Darlene, in 2010.
She will be missed.
Funeral services will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Roanoke at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25. Pastor D. Keith Beasley will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Va. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24.
Arrangements are by Oakey's South Chapel.
