Jessie Maxine Smith was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Wapello County, Iowa, the daughter of Casper Paul and Wanda Hazel (Davis) Smith. She attended Bladensburg, Iowa schools. She was united in marriage to Leonard J. Yeggy on Sept. 25, 1947, in Solon. The couple made their home in Iowa City, where she had worked at Hotel Jefferson, Hamburg 1, and for many years at the Veterans Administration Hospital where she retired from.
Maxine, which she preferred to be called, enjoyed much in her life. Foremost was time spent with her family and friends. She liked taking road trips, especially if they ended up in Missouri or Michigan visiting family, meals with family and friends at Village Inn, doing jigsaw puzzles and word puzzles, tending to her flowers, supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes, collecting and doing all sorts of crafts. She especially appreciated and enjoyed her friends at Emerson Point, all the social activities and special visits by Sister Theresa.
The Yeggy family would like to thank the staff at Emerson Point and Crestview Specialty Care for their all their assistance caring for Maxine.
Her family includes her sons, Joe Yeggy, Steve Yeggy, and his wife, Diane, and Kevin Yeggy, and his wife, Lavon; grandchildren, Stacey Yeggy, Stephanie Robinson (Mike) and Heather Yeggy; great-grandchildren, Megan Garrels, Mackenzie Garrels and Samantha Mahanna; sisters-in-law, Doris Smith and Patricia Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; daughter, Judy Hamer; and siblings, Lorvale Smith, Darlene Allen, Twalla McGee, Morris Smith, Donna Wenz, Paul Smith, Ruth Rager, Bonnie Mathes and Leo Smith.
