Leonard C. Peters, 85, died Aug. 13, 2015, at home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with visitation there at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Leonard C. Peters was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Albion, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Frieda (Schelker) Peters. He graduated from Albion High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. He graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute in 1954 and was employed by Illinois State Police as a radio operator in Springfield for four years. He was employed by Rockwell Collins for 32 years, retiring in 1991. Leonard married Grace Darlene McDonald in Marshalltown on June 19, 1953. He was a 55-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, where he served as deacon. He was a longtime member of the Marion Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Douglas of North Liberty; daughters, Jeanne Westerhoff of Coralville and Carolyn (Bryan) Bohland of Marion; grandchildren, Jonathan Peters of Unionville, Mo., Amanda and Rachel Westerhoff of Cedar Rapids and Courtney, Meckenzie and Shea Bohland of Marion; great-grandson, Logan Peters of Unionville, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Loren Peters; and grandson, Daniel Peters.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to the emergency room doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center along with the Cedar Rapids paramedics.
