WEST DES MOINES — A couple of quick updates before the Hawkeyes open practice Friday at Valley Stadium:
— Junior free safety Brandon Snyder suffered a torn ACL in practice Thursday, per the Iowa sports information staff.
Snyder, who broke in as a starter last season, likely will have surgery next week. How this impacts Snyder's season remains uncertain. Head coach Kirk Ferentz likely will address this after Friday night's practice.
— Junior wide receiver Jerminic Smith has been suspended from football activities and wasn't at Friday night's practice. According to Iowa, the decision was made because of not meeting the team standard for academics, including class attendance and study hours.
— Defensive tackle Nathan Bazata and linebacker Barrington Wade won't practice tonight because of injuries. Bazata, a two-year starter, has missed most of spring with an ankle injury.
— At least four players couldn't attend Friday's practice because of class conflicts.
Check for more after practice.
