BELOIT, Wis. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored six run in the third inning and rolled past the Beloit, Snapper, 11-1, Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field.
The Kernels (27-17) sent 10 batters to the plate in the third and eight more in a three-run fourth. They got three hits from Max Murphy and two each from Zack Larson, Rainis Silva and Tyler Kuresa.
Newcomer Luke Bard (1-0) threw two wo shutout innings in relief to pick up the pitching win. A rain delay cost starter Zack Tillery a good chance at a win.
Bard, Tillery, Cam Booser and Trevor Hildenberger combined for a four-hitter, with Beloit's only run unearned.
The teams complete their series Monday afternoon. The Kernels then return home Tuesday night at 6;35 against Wisconsin.
