Wentzien, Herbert Troy
Herbert Troy Wentzien, 46, of Solon, lost his battle with cancer on Feb. 13, 2010. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, under the auspices of Solon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Meador presiding. Private family inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be before the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.
Troy was born Dec. 17, 1963, to Herbert Theodore and Jo Ann Tracy Wentzien. He grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Gladbrook High School. He attended the University of Iowa and was a member of the Hawkeye Marching Band. He later transferred to UNI, where he earned a B.A. in business with a minor in computer science. He married Kristine Sade on July 26, 1986. They moved to Solon in 1990 and had four children. He worked for the Iowa City Community Schools for 17 years as a network engineer.
Troy was a devoted father, husband, Boy Scout, community member and faithful friend. Troy has given to the youth of the community through coaching as well as the Boy Scouts.
Troy is survived by his wife, Kris; sons, H. Tucker, H. Tanner, H. Turner and daughter, Tarrah, all of Solon; his mother, Jo Ann Wentzien of Lincoln; mother-in-law, Sarah Sade of Marshalltown; brothers, Trent (Deb) Wentzien of Lincoln, Scott (Mary) Sade of Buckeye, Ariz., Philip Sade of Marion, Jim (Deborah) Sade of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Tedra (Craig) Henze of Albion and Tracy (Dennis) Ostrem of Marshalltown; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Herbert Ted Wentzien; father-in-law, Dick Sade; and two nieces,
