CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Jefferson senior Dennis McKinney has committed to play college basketball at Mount Mercy University and was expected to sign his official letter of intent Tuesday afternoon, according to Jefferson Coach Brandon Horman.
The 6-foot-4 McKinney went from Jefferson's junior varsity team last season to a starter who was integral in a turnaround season for the J-Hawks program. He averaged 11.6 points per game, shooting 57.1 percent from the field.
He also led the team in rebounding. Jefferson won 10 games and was competitive in several other close losses one year after winning just one game.
