Evelyn Marie Lipcamon, 78, of Solon, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St.
Evelyn was born March 2, 1936, in Solon, the daughter of Joseph and Martha (Cilek) Reyhons. She was a graduate of Solon High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City. She had been an orthopaedic nurse at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for many years, retiring in 1993. She married Dean Lipcamon on Aug. 24, 1957, in Solon. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, where she sang in the Resurrection Choir for many years. She was a member of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses, Solon American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary's Altar Society (Helping Hands).
The most important things in Evelyn's life were her faith, her family and her nursing career. She was a dedicated nurse and strong patient advocate. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Other interests were gardening, mushroom hunting, crocheting, bird feeding and baking, especially kolaches. She supported many causes, especially the welfare of children and the protection of wildlife and the environment.
Evelyn is survived by her husband; two sons, James (Carolyn) of Charleston, S.C., and Jeffrey (Jodi Nealson) Lipcamon of Coralville; and four grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael, Sara and Micayla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, George and Donald; and an infant sister, Helen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Solon Dollar for Scholars, the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or the Johnson County Animal Shelter.
