Robert John Steinbrech, 85, of Solon, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery, where military honors will be bestowed. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the chuch. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.
Robert John Steinbrech was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Iowa City, the son of Frank and Pearl (McNulty) Steinbrech. He attended Solon Community Schools and graduated in 1949. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Bob was united in marriage to Irene A. Lumpa on Sept. 8, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Bob and Irene farmed most of their life in the Solon area. He enjoyed playing bingo, cards with friends at Old Gold Diner every week, going to bluegrass music festivals, as well as the time spent with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Irene; two children, Dennis Steinbrech of Solon and Darlene DeLong of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Colton DeLong of Des Moines and Danielle Steinbrech of Solon; two sisters, Mary Alice (Paul) Stahle of Solon and Marge (Ray) Welsh of Iowa City; two brothers, Edward (Narge) Steinbrech of Solon and Francis Steinbrech of Solon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Delores Steinbrech, who died Jan. 29, 2014; his parents, Frank and Pearl (McNulty) Steinbrech; and two nephews, Daniel Steinbrech and Dale Lumpa.
