Maas, Harold
Harold Maas, 88, of 103 Chase St. SW, Blairstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, surrounded by his family at Colonial Manor of Amana following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown, by Pastor David P. Rempfer. Burial: St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall. Friends may visit at the church Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and again Monday after 9:30 a.m. The funeral will be held on Monday at 10:30. Military Honors presented by Van Horne American Legion Post 148. Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is serving the family.
Harold is survived by 11 children, Pam Beisker of Port Orange, Fla., Dennis (Marcene) Maas of Rochester, Minn.,
Paulette Bildstein (Mary Beth Rausch) of Parnell, Linda Haack (Greg Van Tomme) of Brooklyn, Donald (Jeri) Maas of Norway, Lynette (Jim) Stults of Ault, Colo., Jan (Mike) Stults of Eaton, Colo., Julie (Bob) Jacobson of Van Horne, Sheila (Jim) Freie of Wilton, Suzette (Randy) Beardsley of Port Orange, Fla., and Carol (Brian) Wessler of Wake Forest, N.C.; three sisters, Lucille Jones of Marengo, Lillian Hopp of Williamsburg and Vernie Kleinmeyer of Cedar Rapids; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Regina, who died June 11, 2010; parents; grandson, Cody Stults; and infant brother, Gilbert.
Harold was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Conroy, the son of Albert and Wilemine (Folkman) Maas. He served in the Navy during World War II. Harold married Regina Hopp on Sept. 7, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy. Harold worked as a farmer and a custom corn sheller for many years.
Harold and Regina loved to play cards and travel to see all of their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the Chicago Cubs.
Harold will be remembered as a hardworking and religious man who was a wonderful and committed husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central Lutheran School in Newhall, Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown and in loving memory of his wife, the Alzheimer's Foundation.
