(Mary) Laverne Wenman was born Jan. 4, 1923, in Harrisburg, Ill., the daughter of Henry and Lora (Fulkerson) Wenman. Her family moved to Coralville and she later graduated from University High School in 1941. Laverne married Dale Flansburg on Sept. 1, 1949, in Stanwood, Iowa. The couple built their "new home" in 1949 in Tiffin; here is where Laverne and Dale raised their family, had many family occasions, here she cared for Dale to allow him to die in his home, and here she continued to reside until moving to her new home, Country View Senior Living, nearly eight years ago.
She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for many years, a Sunday school teacher and one of the "church women" always in the kitchen serving for all those church functions.
She was a 4-H leader and an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, but most of all, she loved all of her family dearly and was happiest when she was with them!
Her family includes her three children, Sherry Flansburg of Sioux City, Janet "Jamie" Cermak (Randy) of Mount Pleasant and Rex Flansburg (Carol) of Riverside; eight grandchildren, Dan Flansburg, Erin Stellato, Luke Flansburg, Becky Bengard, Kimmy Cermak, Tami Abkes, Tara Wiltrout and Christy Rozenek; five great-grandchildren, Cole, Aubrey, Juhl, Macey and Vivian; and Laverne's siblings, Frances Rogers, Art Wenman and Jim Wenman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and Leroy, Lynn and Robert Wenman, Stasha Jones and Della Hartvigsen.
