Mary Agnes McDonald, 94, of Iowa City, died peacefully at home Monday, October 17, 2016, surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Rev. Edward Fitzpatrick presiding and the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez as concelebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or to the University of Iowa Foundation for Macular Degeneration Research.
Mary was born May 24, 1922, on the Malloy Century Farm in Holbrook, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary Jones Malloy. She attended country schools and graduated from Parnell High School. Mary married Al McDonald on April 6, 1943, at St. Michael's Church in Holbrook.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her loving husband of 73 years, Al, and their 11 children, Tom (Mary), Jim (Ada), Terry (Terry), Marie "Sweetie" (Pete) Beelner, Don (Candy), Greg (Audrey), Randy (Mary), Mary "Dolly" McDonald, Marty (Lisa), Milissa (Ted) Wright and Molly (Kevin) Bell; daughter-in-law, Linda McDonald; 40 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, John and Tim, and twin infant sons; one great-grandson, Silas Kalb; and eight siblings.
