Scheffert, Leland L.
Leland L. Scheffert, 63, of Garber, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader after a long illness. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, where friends may also call one hour before services. The Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Elkader.
He was born the son of Reynold and Bernice (Matt) Scheffert on July 20, 1946, in Garber, Iowa. Leland graduated from the Garnavillo High School in 1964. He served in the Vietnam War, earned a Purple Heart and received an honorable discharge on Jan. 4, 1972, from the United States Army. On May 6, 1972, Leland was united in marriage with Virginia “Ginny” Jones at St. Michaels Church in Garber. Two children were born to this union. Leland loved farming. He was especially fond of his black angus cows and calves and admired watching his crops grow each year.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos, playing cards with the neighbor guys, spending time outdoors in nature and being with his family and friends.
Leland will be forever loved and cherished by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Scheffert; one daughter,
Roxann Scheffert; one son, Randy (Bree Daugherty) Scheffert; two brothers, Gail (Cheryl) Scheffert and Mark Scheffert; sister-in-law, Rose (Eugene) Schaffer; brother-in-law, Rocky (Jayne) Jones; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
