Carol Ann Simmons, 80, died unexpectedly Monday, May 13, 2019, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Viola United Methodist Church. Pastors Jim and Chris May will officiate. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Carol Ann Thompson was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Pauline (Epperson) Thompson. She graduated from Vinton High School. She married Keith Lubbock in Vinton in 1957. He preceded her in death in 1972. On April 26, 1974, she married Robert Simmons at the Congregational Church in Monticello. She served as the Jones County treasurer for eight years and retired in 1981. She also helped run B and S Trucking Inc. as well as the family farm. She was a longtime member of the church.
She enjoyed travel, cruises, gardening, fishing, knitting, quilting, hunting mushrooms and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was the longtime needlework judge for the Great Jones County Fair. She was the type of person who loved the outdoors and would rather be there than inside.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert; children, Mark Lubbock, Mundelein, Ill., LuAnne (Doug) Postel, Urbandale, Randy Simmons, Texas, Kandee (Mark Jones) Simmons, Monticello, Daniel Simmons, Floydada, Texas, and Guy (Patti) Simmons, Hannibal, Mo.; grandchildren, Danielle (Matt) Dominguez, Nicole (Cole) Lemon, Nancy (Jake) Heideman, Kye Simmons, Oren Simmons, Kacey (Kenadie) Simmons and Kristeen Simmons; great-grandchildren, Joscelyn, Bennett, Mila, Eloise, Jace, Lukas and Mya; a sister, Sharon (Larry) Williams, Vinton; a brother-in-law, Leroy Simmons, Hannibal; and sisters-in-law, Wanetta Simmons, Monticello, and Paula Simmons, Colorado Springs, Colo.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward.
Memorials in her honor may be directed to the church.
