IOWA CITY HIGH at CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER (4A)
Records, rankings: City High is 8-2, No. 3 Xavier is 9-1

Notable:Xavier blew out Clinton in a first-round playoff game last Wednesday, 45-0. City High was able to survive Muscatine, 24-19. Xavier has had fits and starts offensively at times but its defense has been great, posting six shutouts. The Saints are allowing just 6.1 points per game. Running back Xavier Washpun had 226 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries for City High against Muscatine. His 1,775 yards this season ranks second in Class 4A.
BETTENDORF at IOWA CITY WEST (4A)
Records, rankings: No. 10 Bettendorf is 8-2, No. 5 West is 9-1
Notable:West obliterated Dubuque Hempstead in the first round, 69-7. Bettendorf beat North Scott, 34-7. West's offense pretty much begins and ends with Nate Boland. The senior quarterback had 205 yards rushing against Hempstead and has accounted for 2,295 yards and 23 TDs passing and rushing this season. Running back John McLaughlin has rushed for 1,383 yards and 15 touchdowns for Bett, including 247 and for TDs against North Scott.
CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY at DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION (4A)
Records, rankings: Kennedy is 7-3, No. 7 Assumption is 9-1
Radio: KGYM-AM (1600)
Notable:A strong second half propelled Kennedy to a 42-14 first-round victory against Cedar Rapids Prairie. Assumption shutout Davenport Central, 26-0. Kennedy will ground and pound behind a strong offensive line and the quick feet of running back Miles Moa. The smallest school enrollment-wise in 4A, Assumption has lost only to second-ranked Pleasant Valley, 19-13, in Week Two. The Knights have posted four shutouts and allowed three and six points, respectively, in two other games. Quarterback Jake Gervase has 1,798 yards rushing and passing this season.
MAQUOKETA at DECORAH (3A)
Records, rankings: Maquoketa is 7-3, No. 2 Decorah is 10-0
Notable:Defending champ Decorah won its 24th consecutive game, 34-7 over DeWitt Central in the first round. Quarterback Bryce Pierce completed 5 of 6 passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 116 yards rushing. Maquoketa escaped Crestwood, 19-13, in overtime when quarterback Trent Bollman caught a touchdown on a reverse pass. Bollman has thrown for 1,385 yards this season.
WEST DELAWARE at SOLON (3A)
Records, rankings: Both teams are 9-1
Radio: KGYM-FM (106.3), KMCH-FM (94.6)
Notable:Solon has won eight straight games, all by at least 21 points, since losing to Iowa City Regina in Week Two. That includes a 35-14 first-round playoff win over Western Dubuque. Jacob Black and Brandon Kramer have surpassed 1,000 yards rushing this season for the Spartans. West Delaware has won five straight after a Week Five loss to No. 2 Decorah, all by at least 15 points. The Hawks beat Marion in the first round, 41-21. Sophomore Coy Roussell has 1,621 yards rushing and 20 TDs.
OSKALOOSA (7-3) at WASHINGTON, Iowa (3A)
Records, rankings: Oskaloosa is 7-3, No. 6 Washington is 9-1
Notable:Washington blasted Carlisle in the opening round, 49-14. Oskaloosa edged Centerville, 21-14, on a Jared Pace TD run with 1:05 left. Running back Alex Coker has 1,242 yards and 21 touchdowns this season for Washington. Andrew Landgrebe is a 1,700-yard rusher for Osky, though he was injured early against Centerville and did not return.
WILLIAMSBURG at PELLA (3A)
Records, rankings: Williamsburg is 8-2, No. 4 Pella is 10-0
Notable:Williamsburg escaped Norwalk in the opening round, 24-17, in overtime. Quarterback Jacob Donohoe has thrown 20 touchdown passes this season, 15 to receiver Aaron Schultz. Pella splattered Fairfield in the first round, 56-14. Senior quarterback Noah Clayberg leads a run-heavy Little Dutch club with 1,100 yards rushing, including 215 against Fairfield.
CASCADE at NEW HAMPTON (2A)
Records, rankings: Cascade is 8-2, No. 3 New Hampton is 10-0
Notable:New Hampton beat Center Point-Urbana in the first round, 33-21. Cascade beat LaPorte City Union, 30-27. The 21 points were the most NH has allowed this season. Leading rusher Connor Frerichs had three TDs in that game. Quarterback Derek Lieurance has thrown for 2,131 yards. His top receiving target is Nate Bergfeld, who has 1,110 receiving yards and 10 TDs.
WAUKON at DYERSVILLE BECKMAN (2A)
Records, rankings: No. 4 Waukon is 9-1, No. 9 Beckman is 8-2
Notable:Probably the best second-round game, especially in 2A. Waukon rebounded from a loss in the regular-season finale to New Hampton, topping Monticello in the first round of the playoffs, 48-24. Running back Marcus Weymiller had 195 yards rushing and four touchdowns in that game on just 10 carries. Beckman has won seven straight after a 1-2 start to the season. The Blazers thwarted Hampton-Dumont's upset bid in the opening round, 15-14. The 14 points were the fewest they have scored in a game.
MID-PRAIRIE at ALBIA (2A)
Records, rankings: Mid-Prairie is 8-2, No. 2 Albia is 10-0
Notable:Mid-Prairie beat Davis County in the first round, 36-8. Running back Eesaa Baylor, a 1,000-yard rusher, had 154 yards and two TDs. Albia knocked off Louisa-Muscatine in the first round, 29-6. The Blue Demons have had 11 different players score touchdowns this season.
SOUTH WINNESHIEK at DIKE-NEW HARTFORD (1A)
Records, rankings: No. 9 South Winn is 8-2, No. 2 Dike is 10-0
Notable:There could be a lot of points scored in this one, as South Winn leads Class 1A in scoring (47.8 average). And that was despite being shutout in a game by Waukon. Dike-New Hartford averages a mere 41.8 points, fourth in 1A. South Winneshiek toppled South Hamilton in the first round, 46-20, behind sophomore Logan Schweinefus' four TD passes. He subbed for injured regular Garrett Bohach. Dike overcame Sumner-Fredericksburg in the opening round, 18-6. Carson Parker had 196 yards passing, Ben Cuvelier 111 yards rushing.
NASHUA-PLAINFIELD at NORTH FAYETTE VALLEY (1A)
Records, rankings: N-P is 7-4, No. 8 NFV is 9-1
Notable:NFV lost is regular-season finale to Sumner-Fredericksburg but responded with a 22-13 playoff win over Hudson. Leading rusher Josh Mackey did not play in that game because of injury. He and Derrick Kuehner both surpassed 1,000 yards in the regular season. Nashua-Plainfield is coming off a 33-27 playoff upset of St. Ansgar in Round 1. Reece Reams had 193 yards rushing for the Huskies.
WILTON at MAQUOKETA VALLEY (1A)
Records, rankings: No. 5 Wilton is 9-1, No. 4 MV is 10-0
Notable:Another tasty second-round matchup. Wilton beat North Cedar in the first round, 42-14. Maquoketa Valley beat ..... Wilton's lone loss was to Iowa City Regina, 45-27, a score not indicative of Regina's dominance. The Beavers can run the football with Coy Snider (1,172 yards rushing and 18 TDs) or throw it with Tyler Hetzler (1,807 passing yards and 28 TDs). MV will rely very heavily on running back Ryan Parmely (2,153 yards and 21 TDs), 1A's leading rusher.
CLAYTON RIDGE at IOWA CITY REGINA (1A)
Records, rankings: No. 10 Clayton Ridge is 9-1, No. 1 Regina is 10-0
Radio: KCTN-FM (100)
Notable:Can 1A's leading passer help his team give Regina a game? Kohle Helle has thrown for a 1A-best 2,128 yards this season, though his Regina counterpart (Drew Cook) is no slouch with 1,791 passing yards. Trey Roehlk ranks second in 1A in receiving yards (909) for CV, whose lone loss was 19-17 to Maquoketa Valley. Clayton Ridge topped Eddyville-Blakesburg in the first round, 27-6. Regina blasted Tipton, 46-6, for its 52nd consecutive victory.
TURKEY VALLEY at GLADBROOK-REINBECK (A)
Records, rankings: Turkey Valley is 7-3, G-R is 8-2
Notable:G-R beat Postville in the first round, 35-0, while Turkey Valley beat BCLUW, 46-14. G-R again rode the legs of running back Chase Clark (181 yards rushing, three TDs) against Postville. He's got 1,918 yards rushing this season. Against BCLUW, TV got three rushing touchdowns from Luke Keunnen, one of three backs to accumulate at least 85 yards.
PEKIN at LISBON (A)
Records, rankings: Pekin is ranked seventh, Lisbon fifth. Both are 8-2
Notable:This one should be a good one. After losing two close non-district games to Class 1A opponents, Lisbon has rattled off eight consecutive wins, including a tough 26-21 first-rounder against Montezuma. Quarterback Logan Rickard threw for 169 yards and three TDs in that one. Pekin shutout Lone Tree in its playoff first-rounder, 43-0. The Panthers' two losses were to 1A Sigourney-Keota (by six) and to No. 1-ranked BGM (by 12).
LYNNVILLE-SULLY at BGM (A)
Records, rankings: Lynnville-Sully is 6-4, No. 1 BGM is 10-0
Notable:BGM won the regular-season encounter between these clubs, 42-6. The Bears destroyed Van Buren in their postseason opener, 83-6. Jack Kline ran two punts back for touchdowns, the eighth and ninth time that's happened this season, a national record. Kline also has returned two kickoffs for TDs. Caden Doll has 1,158 yards rushing and 16 TDs for L-S, which beat WACO in the first round, 40-8.
EASTON VALLEY at SPRINGVILLE (8-Player)
Records, rankings: Easton Valley is 6-3, No. 5 Springville is 10-0
Notable:These teams played exactly a month ago, with Springville handing out a 66-16 drubbing. The Orioles (who beat Tripoli in the first round, 63-14) haven't had a win closer than 35 points this season. They average a staggering 66.3 points per game, second in the state to fellow 8-Player team Adair-Casey. Easton Valley surely will see heavy doses of Springville running back Elias Nissen, who has rushed for 41 TDs. EV outscored Janesville in the opening round, 77-63, behind running back Andrew Driscoll's 389 yards rushing and six TDs.
CORYDON WAYNE at HLV (8-Player)
Records, rankings: Wayne is 7-3, HLV is 9-2
Notable:HLV recorded a rare 8-Player shutout in the opening round, 60-0 over Des Moines Grandview Park Baptist. Wayne upset Murray, 82-57. HLV beat Wayne in the regular-season finale for both, 38-30. Tanner Strudthoff leads HLV in rushing and touchdowns (17). Running back Clayton Kiefer has amassed 36 total TDs for Wayne.
