Lomen, Doris J.
WAUKON - Doris J. Lomen, 79, of Waukon, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Doris Jeanne Lomen was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Isabelle (Hill) Ellingson. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway and graduated from Ridgeway High School. Doris worked as an operator for a telephone company in Decorah for several years. On Dec. 1, 1956, she married Richard Lomen at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. They farmed with Richard's father until 1957. Doris and Richard moved to Dallas Center, where Richard worked for a bank and then they moved onto Clarion before moving to Waukon in 1965. They farmed together for several years where they raised registered Holstein cattle. Richard died in 2008; Doris remained very involved with the farming operation until her death.
Doris was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was very active in its ladies groups and sang in the choir. As a member of the Iowa Holstein Association Doris attended Holstein conventions throughout the United States. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a bridge club.
Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed painting, sewing, cooking, traveling, working in her garden and making floral arrangements.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Becky) Lomen of Waukon, Mark Lomen of Lewiston, Minn., and Natalie (Dale) Hentrich of Streamwood, Ill.; six grandchildren, Hannah, Jill and Heidi Hentrich, Denise Herman, Dawn Schulte and Hollee McCormick; and six great-grandchildren, Reese and Tade McCormick, Bailey, Broden and Ariaya Herman and Vaydajane Schulte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Richard.
