Martha Georgiana Wennekamp was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gerd and Anka Husmann Wennekamp. She received her education in the Amber area schools. Martha worked as a nurse's aid at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello. Martha married Herman Steuri on March 23, 1944, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The couple farmed in Richland Township before moving to their farm in Hardscabble.
Martha loved being a farm wife. She enjoyed yodeling to the cattle and helping with the farm chores, hunting deer, squirrels and mushrooms.
