McCain, Herman 'Dannie'
Herman “Dannie” McCain, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died March 12, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at First Church of the Open Bible in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Herman “Dannie” is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris McCain of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Lana Davis of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Gary) Ferguson of Milton, Wis.; son, Dannie McCain of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Troy and Kenny Davis, Jeff Ferguson, Candi Mehlberger, Christopher and Ryan McCain; 11 great-grandchildren; and his special dog, Missy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Carl McCain.
Dannie McCain was born Feb. 25, 1927, the son of Chester and Lora (Ramsey) McCain in Marion, Ill. Dannie enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1945 to 1946. On Nov. 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Kidder in Cedar Rapids. Dannie and Doris made their home in Cedar Rapids, where they raised three children. Dannie worked as a foreman for 37 ½ years for Universal Engineering.
He and Doris volunteered for 15 years for the Olivet Center. Dannie was a life long member of First Church of the Open Bible.
Dannie was a wonderful, kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed, remembered and honored by everyone who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the care they provided to Dannie.
