Porazil-Herman, Susan Elizabeth
Susan Elizabeth Porazil-Herman, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, Neb., from complications of an auto accident. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Jill Herman of Lakewood, Colo., Joe Herman of Reno, Nev., and Jeffrey Herman of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Marilynn Lampe of Cedar Rapids, Charlotte (Ron) Schope of Dubuque, and Marcia (Bob) Solem of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Jim Moore of North Liberty; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; family friend, Julie Greenwell of Marion; and her Pekingese granddogs, Mugzi, Dugan, Mikki, Pookie and Priscilla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Judy Moore.
Susan was born Dec. 27, 1946, the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann (Koutnik) Porazil in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Susan attended St. Ludmila School, Regis High School and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1964. She went to Young's School of Cosmetology and later taught there. Susan then worked for J.C. Penney in the cosmetics department. At the age of 44, she attended Mount Mercy College and obtained her degree in criminal justice. Susan retired in 2011 from AEGON, where she worked as a retirement specialist.
Susan was very active with St. Ludmila Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul Society, where she volunteered for many community projects. As a breast cancer survivor, she also was an active fundraiser for that cause, including the Relay for Life.
Susan was a gifted and talented seamstress. Her pride were her children.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Susan.
