Cedar Rapids Prairie's Levi Usher honored as MVC Valley Division baseball player of year

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Prairie outfielder Levi Usher is the Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division baseball player of the year, it was announced Friday.
The junior, who recently was selected to play in August's Perfect Game All-American Game in San Diego, helped the Hawks back to the Class 4A state tournament by hitting .468 in 41 games. He also had eight doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 34 RBIs and 37 stolen bases.
Dubuque Wahlert's Austin Savary was selected Mississippi Division Athlete of the Year. Brian Mitchell of Iowa City High is Coach of the Year in the Valley Division, Charlie Stumpff of Iowa City West is Coach of the Year in the Valley.
West had six players selected to the Mississippi Division first team, including unanimous picks Connor McCaffery, Tony Comellas, Izaya Ono-Fullard, Braden Houston and Jason Strunk. Nate Disterhoft is the other first-teamer.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson's first-team picks includes brothers Brayden and Drake Frazier. Connor Van Scoyoc also is honored.
Also on the Mississippi Division first team are Cedar Rapids Xavier's Gabe Lux and Bryce Schulte.
In the Valley Division, Prairie, City High and Cedar Rapids Washington had three first-team selections each. Joining Usher is Harrison Cook and Casey Day, for City High it's Brett McCleary, Caleb Sass and Zach Stone, for Washington it's Brady Bunten, Drew Dostal and Lincoln Riley.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Matt Berst is the first-team catcher in the division.
