Herman, Howard F.
Howard F. Herman, 86, of Harper, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Howard was born July 5, 1927, in rural Harper, to Anton and Anna (Schulte) Herman, and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in 1945. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Following his discharge, Howard moved back to Harper, where he farmed with his brother, Myron, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Knights of Columbus, and was a former member of Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his sister, Marcella Snakenberg, and brother, Myron Herman, both of Harper; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Omar and Elmer Herman; and two sisters, Lorene Herman and Bernadine Van Otegham.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 4 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Cemeteries or Holy Trinity Parish.
Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Howard and his family.
