Vera Lee Herman, 86, of Swisher, Iowa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at her home. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home. Burial: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Harvey and Russ of Shellsburg,
Iowa, and Patty Herman and Shelley Marston of Swisher; granddaughter, Aime Heneghan and her special friend Adam King, both of Garrison, Iowa; grandson, Corey Heneghan and fiance Whitney Roemig, both of Vinton; great-grandchild, Lexxus King of Garrison; one brother, Jim Cline of Swisher; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Barb Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; son, John; brother, Joe; and sisters, Donna and Edna.
Vera was born on Aug. 12, 1928, in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Kinze and Ethel (Schoonmaker) Cline. She married Emil Herman on Oct. 22, 1949; he later died in 2007. The couple owned and operated Herman's Bar on Second Street in Swisher for 19 years, retiring in 1987. Vera enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, cooking and gardening. She loved her cats and shopping.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mercy Medical Center and the Hospice of Mercy staff.
