Walton, Eunice Freda
Eunice Freda Walton, 100, of Marengo, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery, Keota. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, Rose Haven Nursing Home or Hospice of Compassus, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Walton (Peggy), Marengo; a grandson, Jeffrey Walton (Kathy), Belvidere, Ill.; two granddaughters, Debra Quinlan (Daniel), Marengo, and Emily Walton, Cedar Falls; a great-granddaughter, Jeana Quinlan; and three great-grandsons, Aidan Quinlan, Evan and Elliot Walton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a 2 1/2-year-old son, Donald Carl; a brother, Fred; and two sisters, Thelma Walton-Linder and Glova Schultz.
Eunice Freda Bower Walton was born July 22, 1912, near Austin, Minn., the daughter of Howard Voorhees Bower and Nellie Grace Stamp Bower. She graduated from Keota High School, Keota, Iowa, in 1930 and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, earning a certificate to teach. She taught country school in rural Keota until she was married. On Dec. 26, 1933, she married Carl Henry Walton at the Lutheran parsonage in Washington, Iowa. The couple farmed for many years in Washington County before relocating to Marengo in 1996. Carl passed away Aug. 12, 1998, and Eunice later made her home at Rose Haven in 2004.
Eunice was a homemaker and devoted mother to two sons. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading books, cooking, and entertaining in her home.
The family would like to thank Rose Haven Nursing Home and Hospice of Compassus for their loving care. We will forever be grateful.
