Gerald Joseph Ernzen, 79, of Marion, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 to 7 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Geraldine, of Marion; his children, Mary Ernzen of Cedar Rapids, John (Michelle) Ernzen of Florida, Joseph (Tammie) Ernzen of Marion, Jerome (Cristie) Ernzen of Cedar Rapids and Jay Ernzen, Jesse Ernzen and Maria Ernzen, all of Marion; his sister, Rita (Dave) Hunt of Peosta; and his grandchildren, Erica Ernzen of Cedar Rapids and Jaylen Ernzen and Jayce Ernzen, both of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Rickardsville, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Clara (Wolf) Ernzen. He married Geraldine on Sept. 1, 1962. To this union seven children were born. Gerald retired from Rockwell Collins after
30-plus years of service.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Gerald enjoyed golfing, playing cards, reading, watching the ball games and loved great food.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; always cherishing his time spent with family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial fund in Gerald's honor has been established.
