Davie Lee Kupka, 85, died peacefully Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Solon Care Center, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Kelsey Pacha will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Davie Lee Kupka Memorial Fund has been established.
Davie was born March 24, 1931, in Hills, Iowa, the son of Clement and Wanda Smith Kupka. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1952. On June 21, 1953, he married Patricia Peterson in Cedar Rapids.
Davie had been employed at the University of Iowa Physical Plant for many years.
Davie had a quick wit. He liked to fish and hunt, garden, play euchre, hunt for mushrooms and was a gifted woodworker. Most important to Davie was his family. He has finally joined Patsy, the love of his life.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caregivers at Solon Care Center.
Davie is survived by his three children, Debby (Ted) Pacha and Sandy (Mark) Abel, both of Iowa City, and Greg (LeaAnn) Kupka of North Liberty; six grandchildren, Jeremy Kupka, Jennifer (Brodie) Campbell, Kelsey Pacha, Alex Pacha, Lauren (Matt) Rosazza and Madison Abel; six great-grandchildren, Quinten and Hayden Kupka, Cora and Boyd Campbell and Abel and Elliot Rosazza; siblings, Gene (Faith) Kupka of Phoenix and Shirley (Bill) Moodie of Costa Mesa, Calif.; sister-in-law, Karen (Roger) Perkins of Peoria, Ill.; and special friend, Marguerite Morey.
Davie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Jayne (Don) Black and Jeri (Jim) Lawrence; in-laws, Kathryn (Leroy) Peterson; and sister-in-law, Kathy (Jerry) Dunham.
