Edith Julian Beam, 84, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. March 3 at Truett Chapel – First Baptist Church, Dallas.
Edith was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Danville, Ky. She
graduated from Henry Clay High School. She married John Daniel "Dan" Beam on Sept. 8, 1950, in Lexington, Ky., being a loving wife to Dan for over 63 years. Edith was also a loving mother and grandmother and an avid reader.
Edith is survived by Dan Beam (husband); John Daniel Beam Jr. ("Danny," son) and his wife, Martha Melinda Beam ("Mindy") (California); Sallie Gaye Landis (daughter) and her husband, Kenyon Landis (Iowa); Joanne Barnes (sister) and her husband, Ed Barnes (Georgia); and her beloved stepfather, John Vernet (Georgia).
Edith is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving, playful "Maw Maw" to Tracy (Pat) Carrothers, Kati McNeme, Daniel (Joann) McNeme, Preston (Natasha) McNeme, David McNeme and Rachael (Tim) Pinson. She had excep-tional skills in hide and seek, with her small physique allowing her to hide in small places like the laundry closet. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe Madison, Noah Christopher, Naomi Ruth, Elijah Timothy, Esther Elizabeth, Sean Patrick, Elliot Foster, Jackson McClain, Lillian Faye and Farron Dalton.
Edith was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Vernet; her father, Henry McLendon; and her brother, Buddy McLendon.
