Marlys Darlene Papesh, 91, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at the funeral home. Internment: Oneida Cemetery near Clutier.
Marlys was born Aug. 3, 1926, to Pete & Hilda (Seeck) Junge, in Keystone. She attended school to the eighth grade. She married Leonard Papesh on April 29, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Marlys was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Traer and the Clutier American Legion Auxiliary in Clutier. She worked part time sorting and bagging corn for Funk's G Seed Corn, as well as detasseling for many years. She loved her rose garden, enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, and especially spending time with friends and family and her yellow lab, Molly.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Gary) Pearson and David Papesh; siblings, Shirley Peters, Helen Jurgens, Marianne (Dilly) Faye, Janice (Delf) Sievers and Corley (Hazel) Junge; grandchildren, Michael (Rita Elliot) Papesh, Eric Shirk and Curtis Camp; stepgrandchildren, Calvin, Troy and Blake Pearson and Dean Watts; great-grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Wilson, Hannah Camp, Kaitlin and Hunter Camp, Melia Jones, Russell Johnson and Markez Wheaton; stepgreat-grandchildren, Kayla Watts (Sara Shrout), Austin Watts, Jeric (Bridget) Watts, and Brady, Cole, Tessa and Jacob Pearson; and many great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Larry; grandson, Christopher Camp; stepdaughter, LeAnn Watts; son-in-law, Charles Camp; and her sisters, Lola and Betty.
